Overview
Create test orders to verify your checkout flow, payment integration, and order management workflows before launching your store or making changes to your payment setup.
What Are Test Orders?
Test orders are placeholder transactions that:
- Do not process real payments
- Do not incur any fees or charges
- Do not affect your sales reports or analytics
- Appear in your orders dashboard for verification
- Allow you to verify the complete order flow end-to-end
Creating a Test Order
Step 1: Place an Order
Test orders can be created in two ways:
Method 1: Through Your Storefront
- Navigate to your online store
- Add products to cart
- Proceed to checkout
- Fill in customer details
Method 2: Manual Order Creation
- Log into your seller area
- Navigate to Orders > New Order
- Fill in customer details manually
Step 2: Mark as Test Order
To designate an order as a test order, include the keyword "test" in either:
- The customer's first name, or
- The customer's last name
Example valid test order names:
- "Test Customer"
- "John Test"
- "test smith"
- "customer test"
Step 3: Complete the Checkout
- Complete the checkout process as you normally would
- The system will automatically recognize the order as a test order
- No payment will be processed
- The order will appear in your orders dashboard
Identifying Test Orders
Test orders in your All Orders list will be clearly marked or identifiable by:
- The keyword "test" in the customer name
- A test badge or label (if displayed)
- Zero fees charged
- Status as "Unpaid" (since no real payment was processed)
What to Verify with Test Orders
Use test orders to confirm:
- Checkout flow: Does the entire checkout process work smoothly?
- Payment gateway integration: Are payment options displaying correctly?
- Order confirmation: Is the confirmation email being sent?
- Order management: Can you view, edit, and manage the order in your seller area?
- Email templates: Are transactional emails formatted and delivering correctly?
- Product information: Are product details displaying accurately at checkout?
- Shipping calculations: Are shipping costs calculated correctly?
- Tax calculations: Are taxes applied properly (if applicable)?
Best Practices
- Create test orders for different product types and quantities
- Test different payment methods if available
- Verify email notifications are configured and working
- Test your order management workflow (editing, refunding, exporting)
- Clear test orders from your dashboard before going live (or filter them out from reports)
- Test with different customer locations if you have multiple shipping zones
Important Notes
- Test orders do not count toward your transaction limits or plan usage
- No fees are deducted from your balance for test orders
- Test order data is retained for your review but should be deleted before launching
- Always use "test" in the customer name; this is the only supported way to create test orders
