Troubleshooting Domain Connection Issues
If you're having trouble connecting your custom domain to YouCan, this guide covers common issues and solutions.
Issue 1: Domain Already Used as Main Domain
Error Message: "The name is already used as a main domain" or similar.
Cause: Your domain is already connected to another YouCan store or account.
Solution:
- If the domain belongs to one of your stores and you're trying to connect it to another:
- You cannot use the same domain across multiple stores
- Consider using a different domain
- Or disconnect the domain from the first store before connecting it to another
- If the domain belongs to another account or you're unsure:
- Contact YouCan support with:
- The domain name
- Your account email
- Proof that you own the domain
- Support can investigate and release the domain if needed
- Contact YouCan support with:
Issue 2: Domain Status Stuck on "Pending"
Cause: DNS propagation has not completed, or nameservers were not updated correctly.
Solution:
- Verify your nameservers were updated correctly:
- Log in to your domain registrar (GoDaddy, Namecheap, Hostinger, etc.)
- Check your nameserver settings
- Confirm both nameservers are entered exactly:
- ns1.youcan.shop
- ns2.youcan.shop
- Ensure any old nameservers are removed
- Check DNS propagation:
- Use a free online DNS checker (search "DNS propagation checker")
- Enter your domain name
- Verify that ns1.youcan.shop and ns2.youcan.shop appear as active nameservers
- This can take 2-72 hours
- Try again after waiting:
- DNS changes take time to propagate globally
- Refresh your YouCan Domains page after 2-6 hours
- If still pending after 48 hours, check your registrar again
Issue 3: SSL Certificate Not Working
Symptoms:
- HTTPS error when visiting your domain
- Browser security warning
- SSL certificate mismatch error
Cause: Domain not fully connected before SSL provisioning attempt.
Solution:
- Ensure your domain is fully connected:
- Go to your Domains page
- Check that domain status is no longer "Pending"
- If still pending, wait for DNS propagation (see Issue 2)
- Wait for SSL provisioning:
- After domain fully connects, SSL can take an additional 15-30 minutes
- Refresh your browser and try again
- If SSL still not working after 1 hour:
- Clear your browser cache
- Try in a different browser
- Try on a different device
- Contact support if persists
Issue 4: Registrar-Specific Problems

- Log in to GoDaddy account
- Go to your domain settings
- Find "Nameservers" section
- Click "Manage Nameservers"
- Select "I'll use my own nameservers"
- Remove default GoDaddy nameservers
- Add YouCan nameservers exactly:
- ns1.youcan.shop
- ns2.youcan.shop
- Save changes
Hostinger Issues:
For detailed Hostinger nameserver instructions, see Hostinger's support documentation.
Typical steps:

- Select "Custom Nameservers"
- Enter YouCan nameservers

For other registrars, contact their support or search their help documentation for "change nameservers."
Issue 5: Domain Was Working, Now Not Working
Cause: Nameserver settings were changed or reverted at your registrar.
Solution:
- Check your registrar's nameserver settings again
- Verify YouCan nameservers are still configured:
- ns1.youcan.shop
- ns2.youcan.shop
- If they've been changed or reverted, update them again
- Wait 2-6 hours for propagation
- If this happens repeatedly, your registrar may have auto-revert settings enabled
Issue 6: Can't Log Into Registrar Account
Solution:
- Use "Forgot password" to reset your registrar account credentials
- Check your email for account recovery options
- Contact your registrar's customer support for account access help
- Do not proceed with domain changes until you regain access
General Troubleshooting Steps
Try these before contacting support:
- Clear cache and cookies in your browser
- Try a different browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, etc.)
- Try a different device (phone, tablet, etc.)
- Wait longer: DNS can take up to 72 hours
- Double-check spelling: Ensure nameservers are entered exactly as shown
- Verify domain ownership: Confirm you own the domain being connected
